Victorian Heart Locket Pendant With Glazed Circular Locket Compartment
This lovely antique heart locket pendant dates from the Victorian era. The pendant is in the form of a 3D ‘puffy’ heart, with the initials ‘MV’ engraved on the front. On the reverse there is a circular glazed locket compartment, which is empty. The glass locket cover opens to the side, like a hinged door; the glass locket cover is convex and has magnifiying properties. The locket is not hallmarked; although sometimes showing a 9ct gold reading when tested, it also showed a gold plated result, so I am going to describe it as gold plated.
The heart pendant measures 2.6cms height (including the top bale). The circular glazed locket cover measures 9mm diameter.
The locket pendant weighs 2.0g
As is sometimes the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks. The locket is showing slightly variable results when tested: sometimes 9ct gold and sometimes gold plated, so I am describing it as gold plated.
This antique locket is around 160 - 180 years old and is in very good condition for its age, showing just light signs of age / general wear. There are no dents or damage to the heart. The circular glass locket cover is intact with a little superficial wear / some scratch marks on the outside. The locket door opens easily and pushes shut.
