Substantial Antique Victorian Shell Cameo Brooch
This substantial antique cameo brooch dates from the Victorian era. The cameo is made of hand carved shell and depicts a classical Greek or Roman Goddess. The cameo is mounted in a gold plated mount.
The brooch measures 5.8cms height (the cameo including the gold mount) and the brooch weighs 13.4g
There are no hallmarks; the brooch mount is gold plated and the ‘C’ clasp is a silvertone metal.
This brooch is around 120 - 150 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing light signs of age / general wear. There are no chips or missing areas to the cameo; on close inspection it can be seen that there is a superficial, very fine, hairline crack to the white area of the cameo but this is very faint and does not penetrate the full depth of the cameo. The cameo is secure in its mount. There are some very light, superficial, scratch marks to the reverse of the cameo and a couple of faint hairline stress lines can be seen when the cameo is held up to the light. The brooch clasp and pin are in secure working order.
