Sentimental Antique Enamelled Pansy Pendant
This rare and collectable antique pendant is made of a gold coloured metal (possibly brass). The front of the pendant is colourfully hand enamelled with a pansy and the words ‘A MOI’. The pansy became a sentimental and romantic symbol in jewellery in the Georgian era as the word ‘pansy’ sounds similar to the French verb ‘Penser’ which means ‘to think’. So, together with the wording below the pansy, the message conveyed in this pendant is ‘think of me’.
The pendant measures 2.3cms diameter and it weighs 4.8g
There are no hallmarks; the pendant is not gold but is made of a gold coloured metal (possibly brass).
This pendant is in very good condition for its age, and showing just light signs of age / general wear. There is a tiny bit of enamel loss - see photo for detail. The suspension ring is original and is soldered closed.
