Quality, Good Size, Antique Edwardian 9ct Gold Locket Pendant
This lovely, quality, good size antique locket pendant dates from the Edwardian era and is made of 9ct gold; the gold has a lovely warm, mellow, tone and is somewhere between yellow gold and rose gold in colour. Both the front and the reverse of the locket have beautiful, scrolling, engraving detail and the front has a central blank cartouche, which could be engraved with initials. The locket opens to reveal two locket compartments, both of which have purple backing paper and an inner securing ring. The right hand locket compartment also has a protective Perspex type cover. The outer edge of the locket has a repeated engraved chevron design. The locket is of the 9ct gold ‘back and front’ variety, which means that the front and back panels of the locket are made of 9ct gold and the inner securing rings and frame are made of a gold coloured metal (which improves the locket’s strength and durability).
The locket measures 2.8cms diameter and it weighs 6.4g.
As is sometimes the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the locket has been professionally tested and is made of 9ct gold ‘back and front’ (see above for detail).
This antique locket is well over 100 years and is in very good condition for its age, with no damage or dents and showing just very light signs of age / general wear. The locket opens easily and closes securely with a click.
