This beautiful, sentimental, Antique Edwardian brooch is made of hallmarked 9ct yellow gold and is by the collectable and prestigious jewellery company Murrle Bennett. The brooch is in the form of a swallow holding a shamrock in its beak and is set with lustrous, graduated, seed pearls. The brooch is full of symbolism: swallows were a very popular image in Victorian and Edwardian jewellery and symbolised love and faithfulness. Shamrocks were also popular motifs and symbolised the Holy Trinity with the leaves representing faith, hope and love. This brooch is offered for sale in very good condition and has the benefit of an attached safety chain for added safekeeping.

The brooch bar measures 3.3cms and the wingspan measures 2cms, tip to tip. The brooch weighs 2.0g (including the safety chain).

The brooch pin is stamped '9CT' for 9ct gold and 'M.B & Co.' for Murrle Bennett & Company. The safety chain is not separately hallmarked and has not been tested.
