Antique Victorian Silver Locket Pendant

£47.00

This pretty, good size, antique locket pendant dates from the Victorian era and is made of silver. The locket has pretty foliate engraving on the front and a different floral (peony?) design on the reverse. There is a blank cartouche at the bottom of the reverse of the locket which could be engraved with initials, if desired.

The locket measures 3.2cms x 2.5cms and it weighs 10.8g

As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the locket has been tested and is made of silver, front and back. The frame and inner securing ring are made of a base metal, which improves the locket’s strength and durability. It appears that the locket has at some point been lined with a grey coloured metal, presumably to make it more sturdy.

This locket is around 140 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing light signs of age / general wear. The inside of the locket is empty apart from one inner securing ring. The locket opens easily and closes securely with a click. The (original) top suspension ring has not been soldered closed.
