sold out

This collectable antique double mourning locket dates from the Victorian era and is offered for sale in very good condition. The front of the locket is enamelled in black and white with ‘IN MEMORY OF’ written in a sash across the crucifix. Both the front and back of the locket have lovely engraved foliate decoration. The locket opens to reveal two locket compartments, each with the original glass covers and fabric backing. The locket has a very attractive faceted gold split ring as a suspension ring.

The locket is of the 9ct gold ‘back and front’ variety, which means that the front and back panels of the locket are made of 9ct gold and the outer oval frame and inner securing rings are made of a gold coloured metal (which improves the locket’s strength and durability).

The locket measures approximately 3cms height (including the fitted bale but excluding the suspension ring) x 2.2cms maximum width

The locket weighs 7.2g

As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the locket has been professionally tested and has been found to be 9ct gold ‘back & front’ (see above for detail).

This locket is around 150 years old and is in very good condition for its age, with no damage and showing just very light signs of age / general wear. There is no enamel loss and no dents to the locket. Inside, the glass is in very good condition with no chips or cracks and both inner securing rings are present. It doesn’t seen that the locket has ever been used to house photos etc. The locket opens easily and closes securely with a click.
