Antique Victorian (1898) 9ct Gold, Pearl and Red Gem Locket Brooch
This decorative antique brooch is made of fully hallmarked 9ct yellow gold and dates from 1898. The front of the brooch is set with six seed pearls and a central red paste gemstone. The reverse of the brooch features a circular locket compartment which could house a lock of hair. The locket compartment has a protective perspex type cover and can be easily removed by prising out the outer securing ring which can be pushed back into place afterwards.
The brooch measures 3.9cms length and it weighs 1.8g
The reverse of the brooch is stamped ‘9’ and ‘375’ for 9ct gold, along with hallmarks showing that it was made in Chester in 1898. There is also a maker’s stamp. The pin itself is not gold.
This antique brooch is 126 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing light signs of age / general wear. There are no missing gemstones or locket parts; the reverse has a slightly irregular finish to the gold. The clasp is in secure working order.
