Antique Victorian (1889) Sterling Silver Locket Pendant

£29.00
sold out

This lovely antique locket pendant dates from 1889 and is made of fully hallmarked Sterling silver. The locket front has a pretty flower (a daisy?) and the reverse is plain apart from a hallmark.

The locket opens to reveal two inner locket compartments, one of which contains some hair (could be easily removed) and the other compartment is empty. Both compartments have their original inner securing rings and protective glass covers (one cover is cracked).

The locket measures 2.9cms height (including the integral bale but excluding the top suspension ring) and it weighs 6.5g

The reverse of the locket is stamped with a lion passant (for Sterling silver), along with hallmarks showing that the locket was made in Birmingham in 1889. There is also a maker’s mark.

This antique locket is 136 years old and shows some signs of age and wear. The front of the locket has a pinprick dent to one edge but is otherwise in very good condition. The reverse of the locket has numerous small, light, dents. One of the glass locket covers is in very good condition, the other has a crack. The backing paper inside one half of the locket has superficial wear in one area. Both inner securing rings are in intact. The locket opens easily and closes securely. The top silver suspension ring is not soldered closed. This locket does show signs of having been worn and loved and is priced accordingly. It is still very pretty and wearable.
