Antique Late Victorian Gold Picture Locket Pendant With Reverse Compartment
This decorative antique picture locket pendant dates from the late Victorian era. One side of the locket has a fixed glazed cover over an (original) photograph, the other side has an engine turned gold panel which is actually a hinged cover for another separate locket compartment (currently empty). The locket has a decorative frame and top bale. The inner locket compartment has a fabric backing, an inner securing ring and a perspex type protective cover. The front of the locket has a glass cover over the original photo; a jeweller should be able to remove the glass cover if the photo was to be replaced. By design the top bale can be moved back and forth.
The locket is not hallmarked but has been professionally tested. The back pull down panel / cover is 15ct gold and the decorative locket frame and top bale are gold plated.
The locket measures 3.2cms diameter and it weighs 10.6g
This antique locket is around 130 years old and is in good condition for its age, with no damage and showing light signs of age / general wear. There are no dents to the back gold panel. The front glass panel is in good condition with no damage and showing just light wear in the form of a couple of fleabite sized nibbles to the edge in one area. The inner locket compartment is in very good condition; the panel pulls down easily and pushes securely back in place. There is no wear to the gold plating. The front glass panel is fixed and completely secure, but has been set at a slight angle. There are no dents / damage to the decorative gold frame.
