Antique Georgian Gold Cased Bloodstone Set Fob Seal
This antique Georgian fob seal dates from around 1800 - 1820. The fob is gold cased and is set with a bloodstone plaque, which is currently uncut but could be engraved with initials. The bloodstone plaque is in lovely condition with a glossy surface finish. The fob has a good size bale so a neck chain could easily be threaded to to enable it to be worn as a pendant.
The bloodstone set base of the fob measures 1.7cms x 1.4cms and the fob has a height of 2.5cms.
The fob weighs 4.3g
As is often the case with items of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the fob has been professionally tested and is gold cased. The inside of the arched part of the fob is stamped ‘SOLID GOLD’ which could suggest that the upper part of the fob is solid gold, but the domed lower half is definitely gold cased.
This antique fob is 100 - 120 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing light signs of age / general wear and use; there are a couple of pit marks / very small dents. The bloodstone plaque is in very good condition with a lovely, glossy, surface finish. Under magnification it can be seen that there is some very light, superficial, wear to the gold casing on the edge at the widest part of the fob, but this is not visible to the naked eye. I’ve included lots of photos.
