Antique Georgian 9ct Gold and Banded Agate Brooch

£47.00

This antique brooch dates from around 1820 - 1840 and is made of 9ct yellow gold. The brooch is set with a polished tablet of natural banded agate in varying shades of grey / beige and brown, within a 9ct gold crimped collet setting. There is natural veining in one corner of the agate which is not cracking / damage.

The brooch measures 2.5cms x 2cms and it weighs 5.9g

As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the brooch has been tested and is made of 9ct yellow gold.

This brooch is around 200 years old and is in good condition for its age, showing just light signs of age / general wear. The agate has nice, crisp, facets and a polished, glossy, surface finish. To be thorough, there are two fleabite sized nicks to the agate but apart from this there are no chips or damage. The ‘lines’ in one corner of the brooch are natural veining and are not surface reaching fractures within the stone. The clasp / pin are in secure working order.
