Antique Edwardian 9ct Rose Gold Mounted Shell Cameo Brooch

£83.00

This antique, hand carved, cameo brooch dates from the Edwardian era and is made of carved conch shell. The carving depicts a classical lady (perhaps a Goddess) in profile and shows lovely detail. The reverse has been signed by the carver. The cameo is mounted in hallmarked 9ct rose gold and a safety chain has been fitted for added safekeeping.

The brooch measures 4cms x 3cms and it weighs 8.6g

The underside of the brooch mount is stamped ‘9CT’ for 9ct gold. The pin itself is a gold coloured metal and the safety chain is not hallmarked (and has not been tested for gold content).

This antique brooch is over 100 years old and is in very good condition for its age, with no damage and showing just light signs of age / general wear. The cameo is secure in its gold mount and the catch / pin are in secure working order. The underside of the cameo has numerous light, very superficial scratch marks, as well as the carver’s signature.
