Antique Edwardian 9ct Rose Gold Locket Pendant
This pretty and decorative locket pendant dates from around 1900 - 1910 and is made of 9ct rose gold. The locket has a slightly varied engraved foliate design on the front and back with a blank ‘swag’ on the front, which could be engraved with initials. The locket is of the 9ct ‘back and front’ variety, which means that the front and back panels of the locket are 9ct gold, but that the inner frame and securing rings are a gold coloured metal (which improves the locket’s strength and durability). Inside the locket there is what appears to be an original circular piece of cream satin type fabric and also a piece of cream card. One of the compartments has an inner securing ring.
The locket measures 2.1cms diameter and it weighs 2.9g
As is often the case with jewellery of this age and type there are no hallmarks, but the locket has been professionally tested and is of the 9ct ‘back & front’ variety (see above for details).
This locket is over 100 years old and is in good condition for its age, with no dents or damage and showing just light signs of age / general wear. The locket opens easily and closes securely with a click. The top suspension ring shows a little general wear and has not been soldered closed.
